Dreamers carrying “Less is More” creed may get enough with a foundation that can do for a refreshing complexion without a fuss. It aims for minimal, natural-looking makeup, or so-called “no-makeup” makeup. Well, that rather gives applause to those with flawless “canvas.” God blesses them! But, For damn days, we still need a bit extra coverage to ward off raccoon eyes after sleepless nights or ruddy, budging zits or scarring or hyperpigmentation.

Then, just ditch heavy foundations and hand over to concealers, from which you can hide pesky imperfections while keeping a healthy, airy complexion. Concealer adds bonuses in makeup for a velvety, clear texture, color correcting and also, and highlighting. Lately, I have been trying many products of NYX Professional Makeup, like lipstick, primer, and powder. This time, let’s get further in my review of HD Photogenic Liquid Concealer in Light (CW3) and Medium (CW5).

1. Included Chemical and Natural Emollients

The product tends to fit well into the skin and naturally cover up different imperfections, such as discoloration and undereye circles. It’s currently available in 23 shades for a wide range of skin tones.

About NYX HD Photogenic Concealer Wand

Formulated with Trimethylsiloxyphenyl Dimethicone and Trimethylsiloxysilicate. Both silicone-based polymers work as conditioners, softeners and occlusive agents to provide silky feelings, reduce moisture loss and improve spreadability. Similarly, the formula contains Glycerin and Caprylic (Capric) Triglyceride, extracted from coconut oil. These two humectants are capable of restoring skin hydration and minimizing dryness for plump, supple-looking skin.

There is Isononyl Isononanoate, a synthetic ester naturally occurring in cocoa and lavender oils. Its emollient nature leaves moisturizing and luxurious sensations on the skin. Triethoxycaprylylsilane, a silicone, and Sorbitan Olivate, an ester of fatty acids from olive oil with Sorbitol, both function as emulsifiers. Very multitasking to prevent the ingredients of formula from separating, bond pigments to form a stable coating and also, make pigments diffuse well for seamless coverage.

Infused with Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Extract and Cocos Nucifera (Coconut) Oil. The ingredients extraordinarily boast moisturizing, soothing and softening properties. Moreover, The product consists of Silica (Silicon Dioxide) and Alumina (Aluminum Oxide). These two bring abrasive, thickening, anti-caking, absorbing, opacifying, bulking and suspending activities. Aim to absorb sweat and oil, evenly disperse pigments, foil pigments from caking in makeup and fend off a light reflection.

Furthermore, Euphorbia Cerifera (Candelilla) Wax and Xanthan Gum serve as thickeners, emulsifiers, stabilizers and viscosity regulating agents. There are some other chemical ingredients to work as preservatives of the product, such as Caprylyl Glycol, Tocopheryl Acetate and Phenoxyethanol.

In addition, to be a humectant and stabilizer, Caprylyl Glycol can increase the antimicrobial effect of other preservatives, typically Phenoxyethanol. Tocopheryl Acetate, at which acetic acid is added to tocopherol (vitamin E), does its job as a natural preservative to prolong the product’s shelf life.

Eventually, mixed with mineral pigments (Titanium Dioxide and Iron Oxides ) and synthetic colorants (Manganese Violet, Ultramarines, Chromium Hydroxide Green, Chromium Oxide Greens, Yellow 5 Lake).

2. Beautiful, Seamless Texture, but Not Full Coverage

The concealer is fluid to provide an extremely thin veil of color. I’m madly in love with it! I have always been enamored with lightweight-consistency foundations or concealers. The product is sleek and goes into the skin so well. It’s so undetectable that you have a “brand-new” skin.

Genuinely blendable and buildable, there are not any streaks and patchy residues either, regardless of how many layers are on top. It promptly sets in place and results in an even, silky texture without greasiness or moving around. Plus, I can literally find it refreshing and hydrating on my skin.

At first, I expected the product would leave a matte finish. But, it’s not that. Also, it does not cause overwhelmingly glowing reflection. This is about something else. It rather suffices to impart a plush, healthy complexion with subtle luminosity instead of going matte completely. Of course, there is still a hint of matte in it. I think this is brilliant to make skin look plumper and less dull. Absolutely no caked-on feelings. I really get my new fave.

Regarding how far the concealer covers up flaws, it’s decent to give it room in your makeup bag on the go. The product is always under your control to create sheer to high coverage, whenever you want. Its spot-fading effect is an awesome deal for minor zits or bumps and blemishes scars, except for whopping, reddening pimples, you may put more effort to hide them away. The worst part of using concealer after spot-treating acne is that the pigment is shabbily clinging to the flaky, shredding skin around the blemishes. I guess folks who are “surviving” through acne vulgaris know this best.

Don’t let them get butt in our big dates! Get a hold of yourself with short prep by damping your skin first and gently rubbing a washcloth over it to peel away the flakes. Or, I usually massage my skin with cleansing oil, use a washcloth to strip the flakes and then, wash it off with tepid water. Afterward, dab a bit of moisturizing oil of jojoba or rosehip seed on the areas. Assure that you pick oils from prestigious brands. Their potent moisturizing and healing properties quickly hydrate and smooth out the spot. Leave skin to absorb for about 30 seconds, moreover, don’t forget to apply skincare products all over your face before putting makeup on.

NYX HD Photogenic Concealer Wand tested on my hand

Gotta say the concealer is positively fabulous to disguise spots, pimples and some minor imperfections. However, it does not utterly cover up discoloration, particularly the darkness under my eyes, despite touching many layers over. I got light and Medium. Sorry that I have not mentioned how those two shades work on my skin yet, just want to wait until now.

Light is a kind of light beige with pink undertones, whereas Medium is a medium beige with olive undertones. Medium actually appears to be lighter than the graphic indicating color on the NYX website. Take a glimpse of these two, they look kinda alike through the tube.

I have quite fair skin color with neutral undertones and purplish darkness under my eyes. If you are wrestling with the same problem as mine, I’d highly recommend coating the color corrector with orange or peach tones on dark circles beforehand. Additionally, going for green color ones to neutralize the ruddiness of pimples. Back to the point, Light is fairly nice on me, in fact, it helps slightly brighten up my eye areas. In contrast, the Medium seems wrong, it’s obviously deeper than my skin color.

One more thing, I usually have creases under my eyes and on the forehead. The product does settle into the fine lines after a few hours, therefore souped-up eye cream and primer are almighty weapons to dampen the appearance of worn-out signs. Plus, Gently sweeping translucent powder on top keeps the concealers from creasing. It’s pretty long-lasting for about 6 to 7 hours.

3. Simple Packaging

NYX HD Photogenic Concealer Wand Packaging

Comes in a small, transparent tube (0.11 oz/ 3g) that you can see concealer shades through, with black text prints and a long lid. You can confirm the shade numbers at the bottom of the tube. It’s indeed portable and weightless for travel. There is a thin, long doe foot applicator with a pointed tip, which lays down precise, detail-oriented applications.

4. My Rating (8/10): Worth trying! Good Concealer for Everyday Makeup

Rating 8/10

The Concealer is really adorable and I’ll use it for my everyday makeup. So easy to use with lightweight consistency. Its price is very affordable and suggestive for frugal girls. I’d like to give it 8 out of 10.

Hope the post is not boring for you. This is my personal and honest review of HD Photogenic Liquid Concealer in Light (CW3) and Medium (CW5). It is my big pleasure to hear you out. Please be open with me. Thank you so much!
